The modern Battles in Time collection expanded with the announcement of the Obliterator Set on 28 May 2026. The announcement was made during The Whoniverse Show, with Master Replicas and Heathside Trading introducing Obliterator as the first randomized expansion of the 2026 Battles in Time releases.
Unlike the fixed-content Retroduction Game Pack, Obliterator returned to the traditional booster-pack distribution format used by the original Battles in Time collections. Cards were distributed randomly through individual booster packs, allowing collectors to obtain cards through opening packs, trading and secondary-market purchases.
The Obliterator collection expands the television coverage of Battles in Time beyond the material previously represented in the original collections. The set includes characters and subjects associated with the eras of the Eleventh, Twelfth, Thirteenth and Fifteenth Doctors.
This extends the collection's coverage beyond the events of Journey's End and introduces card material from subsequent periods of Doctor Who.
The main Obliterator checklist consists of 142 cards. Each standard booster pack contains six cards.
The cards are distributed across four principal rarity classifications:
92 Common Cards (C): High-spec UV-glossed card stock.
40 Rare Cards (R): Enhanced with a striking rainbow foil overlay (1 per pack).
10 Super-Rare Cards (SR): Printed on premium holofoil card stock (1 in every 18 packs).
2 Ultra-Chase "Vortex Rare" Cards: Utilizing an incredible, all-new metallic print technology (1 in every 720 packs).
6 Oversized Box Topper Cards: Premium oversized collector inserts found inside sealed booster displays (1 in every 36 packs / 1 per box). (There was also a 7th Oversized Topper Card included with the albums which were available seperately)
The Vortex Rare cards represent a new rarity category for the 2026 collection and occupy the highest rarity level within the standard Obliterator checklist.
In addition to the 142-card main checklist, Limited Edition Obliterator includes six oversized Box Topper cards. These are separate from the numbered main collection and are supplied with sealed booster displays.
The Box Topper cards have a published distribution of one per Limited Edition booster display, corresponding to one card for every 36 standard booster packs.
A seventh oversized card was also produced for distribution with collector albums sold separately. This card is therefore separate from the six Box Topper cards included within the standard booster-display configuration.
The oversized cards form a separate category of promotional and collector inserts rather than increasing the total of 142 cards in the main Obliterator checklist.
Creative Director Ben Robinson intentionally randomized the master checklist numbering, but he couldn't resist a direct nod to Series 14 lore. Card #73 in the set is officially dedicated to the "Mysterious Woman" from the episode 73 Yards.

The development of the Obliterator Set included an earlier prototype version of the card design. The collection was originally scheduled to be revealed during The Whoniverse Show on 22 May 2026. Shortly before the planned announcement, a teaser video showing physical card prototypes was uploaded to TikTok.
An earlier leak had already identified the Obliterator name, but the subsequent video provided the first publicly documented view of physical prototype cards from the collection.
The cards shown in the leaked material differed significantly from the final Obliterator design. The known characteristics of the prototype template include:
Missing card attributes: The prototypes did not display the set number, rarity indicator or background faction symbols found on the final cards.
Numbering: At least one prototype was shown clearly enough for its numbering to be identified. The card featured Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and displayed the number “006” at the top of the card frame which revealed it was to be 006 of the Obliterator set.
The prototype version of the Kate Lethbridge-Stewart card contained the following descriptive text: “As the head of UNIT, Kate believes that it is always better to try science and diplomacy before turning to a military response.” Information obtained from individuals associated with the production of the Obliterator collection indicates that 20 prototype cards were produced for each complete prototype set. Five complete prototype sets are reported to exist, with the majority understood to have been retained for archival purposes.
The 20 cards correspond to the first 20 cards of the Obliterator collection. Examples of these prototype cards appeared in the leaked TikTok footage and were subsequently shown in connection with The Whoniverse Show. Scans of the surviving prototype cards are archived below as a record of this pre-production version of the Obliterator collection. The reported production quantity and number of surviving prototype sets are based on information from individuals associated with the production process and are not currently supported by publicly available production documentation.
In a first for Battles in Time, the Obliterator set was released initially with a Limited Edition version of the print run.
Availability: Exclusive to Master Replicas (launched 28 May 2026).
Print Run: Strictly limited display boxes worldwide, however the exact number of cards is unknown due to separate sales of 5 packs.
Set Logo Foil: Gold Foil Obliterator branding stamped below every card.
Box Security: Factory sealed with a tamper-proof authenticity sticker.
Purchase Method: Only available to buy as a full 36-pack display box or packs of 5 packs.
Alongside the Obliterator collection, Master Replicas released a dedicated collector's binder designed for the Limited Edition Obliterator cards.
The binder was priced at £24.99 and was produced as a limited worldwide run of 1,000 units.
Unlike the A4 top-loading albums associated with the original Battles in Time collections, the Obliterator binder uses a modern side-loading pocket configuration. The pages are designed to hold and protect the 142 cards comprising the main Obliterator checklist, while the side-loading design reduces the likelihood of cards sliding out when the binder is moved or inverted.
Each Obliterator collector's binder includes an exclusive oversized collector's card. This card is separate from the 142-card main Obliterator checklist and is not distributed through the standard booster packs or booster displays.
The binder-exclusive oversized card therefore represents a separate promotional release associated specifically with the collector's binder.
The Obliterator collection became available for pre-order through the Master Replicas storefront on 28 May 2026 at 16:00 BST. The launch coincided with the broadcast of The Whoniverse Show, during which the collection was officially announced.
The launch provided collectors with the opportunity to pre-order the Limited Edition collector's binder and sealed Obliterator booster boxes.
The Limited Edition sealed booster boxes were offered at a retail price of £107.64.
Members of the Battles in Time Collectors Club were eligible for a dedicated discount at checkout and received priority processing during fulfilment.
The Obliterator release was initially structured as a pre-order, with physical production taking place following the launch.
The cards, collector's binders and sealed booster boxes were scheduled to begin shipping to customers worldwide in July 2026.
The pre-order format means that the initial production and distribution of the collection differed from the retail distribution model used for the original Battles in Time releases.
Released on Thursday 9th of July, the unlimited edition of the Obliterator Set was released for pre-order with an expected shipping date of September. There were some subtle differences noted on the promotional art for the website.
Availability: Standard retail stock though sealed boxes could be bought from Master Replicas (launched Thursday 9th of July)
Print Run: Far larger print run to accommodate retail selling.
Set Logo Foil: Silver Foil Obliterator branding stamped on every card matching the Retroduction set.
Box Security: Standard retail plastic wrap.
Purchase Method: Available to buy as individual booster boxes from Master Replicas' website and eventually retail.
Alongside the Unlimited Obliterator expansion, Master Replicas introduced a dedicated collector's binder designed to accommodate the Unlimited Obliterator card collection.
The binder was sold at a retail price of £24.99. Unlike the Limited Edition Obliterator binder, which was produced as a worldwide limited run of 1,000 units, no stated production limit has been identified for the Unlimited version. It therefore appears to have been produced without a fixed limited quantity.
The binder also includes an oversized promotional card, continuing the feature used for the Limited Edition binder.
The design differs from the Limited Edition version. Whereas the earlier binder used a predominantly dark purple background, the Unlimited version uses a lighter colour scheme incorporating white and light blue tones. This represents a further variation in the visual design of the Obliterator collection and differs from the darker backgrounds used on some earlier Battles in Time products, including Ultimate Monsters.
The Unlimited Obliterator expansion was released through the Master Replicas website on 9 July 2026 at 16:00 BST.
The Unlimited Edition sealed booster boxes were introduced at a retail price of £107.64, matching the price of the Limited Edition boxes released earlier in the year. Unlike the Limited Edition, the Unlimited Edition was produced in a larger quantity and was intended for wider retail distribution, including availability through physical stores. The exact production quantity has not been publicly stated.
The Unlimited Edition packaging also features a variation in the presentation of the character artwork. Based on the promotional imagery, the design appears to use a larger cut-out area around the characters, allowing more of the surrounding background to remain visible. This is closer in appearance to the presentation used on the original Battles in Time booster boxes, although the comparison is based on promotional imagery rather than a confirmed production specification.
The different releases of the Obliterator collection can be distinguished through variations in their booster pack packaging.
Although the character artwork and overall pack designs continue to vary, the packs also feature a diamond-shaped Doctor Who logo on the right-hand side that identifies the edition.
Limited Edition packs feature a gold-coloured diamond logo and are labelled “Limited Edition”.
Unlimited Edition packs feature a silver-coloured diamond logo and are labelled “Unlimited Edition”.
This provides a visual method of distinguishing the two Obliterator booster pack variants, in addition to the differences in their distribution and production arrangements.
Obliterator introduced a new chase-card category to the Battles in Time range known as the Vortex Card. This differs from the Super Rose lenticular cards used in earlier releases, which incorporated a gold-coloured reverse and the lenticular finish associated with Ultra Rare cards.
Vortex Cards are manufactured from solid metal rather than conventional card stock. A specialised printing process allows detailed artwork and card information to be applied directly to the metal surface. Areas including the card title, category headers and selected icons allow the underlying metal to remain visible as part of the design.
The metal finish included is either silver or gold.
The metal construction gives the cards substantially different physical characteristics from conventional Battles in Time cards. They are considerably heavier and cannot be bent in the same manner as standard card stock.
The Vortex Cards were introduced as part of the Obliterator expansion, with their distribution specified as 1 in every 720 packs. Their physical availability followed the release schedule of the respective Obliterator editions.
